About Pomegranate Smoothie

Chock full of antioxidants, this dairy free fresh pomegranate smoothie is one of my current favorite beverages. Made with freshly extracted pomegranate juice and chocolatey almond milk, this yummy drink is a real treat. Most of the fruit smoothies I make are dairy free, and this delightful pomegranate version is no exception. I usually make my Milkshakes and smoothies with plant-based alternatives like almond or coconut milk. Milk, along with other dairy products is incompatible with many fruits and vegetables according to the ancient Indian system of medicine – Ayurveda. The combo can cause indigestion, bloating and sluggishness of the digestive system, which is the exact opposite of what we want from a healthy mid-day snack like this yummy smoothie! Since you know my affinity for making things from scratch, you won’t be a bit surprised that I have extracted my own Pomegranate Juice directly from pomegranate arils. If you have ready pomegranate juice, then you can add 1 cup of it, though you should know that the nutrients in fresh juice degrade over time. My motto is “fresh is always best.” This smoothie recipe serves 1 tall glass or 2 small glasses. You can easily double or triple the recipe to serve the whole family!

How To Make My Pomegranate Smoothie

  1. Add the pomegranate arils in the feeder tube of a juice extractor or electric juicer.
  2. Extract the juice.
  3. Now place 1 cup of the juice in a blender jar. Here I have used the same blender jar as the juice extractor is a part of the blender that I have. If using ready-made pomegranate juice, then add 1 cup of it in a blender jar.
  4. Add 1 cup non-dairy milk – plain, cocoa or vanilla flavored varieties will all work. I used chocolate almond milk, but oat or coconut milk will also work just fine! If using plain non-dairy milk, then you can add 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder and/or a splash of vanilla extract in the smoothie if you like.
  5. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons raw sugar, maple syrup, honey or regular sugar to taste. Sweetener is optional.
  6. Blend the pomegranate juice with almond milk.
